What do I go by on AIM?

I just registered for AIM and downloaded it. I used my normal email address, papillonsandpitbulls@gmail.com to sign up. When someone IMs me, will they need to address the IM to papillonsandpitbulls@gmail.com or just to papillonsandpitbulls? I know with Yahoo! Messenger I go by papillonsandpitbulls, not my email address. Thanks!
